Take a look at these three artistic resources to expand your students' creativity – all without leaving home!
In our current world state, many of us are finding ourselves stuck at home without any creative inspiration. What makes this even more challenging is that often it’s in our classrooms that we are given first access to global cultural and artistic content, meaning that now we can be especially hungry for it! If you’re looking to change up your class's routine, check out these three fantastic online and free resources that you can share with your class to explore all sides of the Arts!
Take a Free Online Class at the Museum of Modern Art
Enrich your mind and soul, all while kicking it at home! The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is now offering free comprehensive online classes in a variety of topics, all to do with the 91-year-old museum’s collection! These beginner courses are awesome for students; they can take up to 38 hours to complete, and therefore go decently in-depth into their subjects, providing accompanying readings and exercises. Learn about fashion design, photography, modern art, abstract painting – figure out what is contemporary art, anyways? – all while costing nothing! Let out your inner nerd and revel in an artistic topic, through the incredible guidance of the worlds experts!
Watch Bob Ross’s The Joy of Painting
If you’re looking for something a little more low-key for your class, there’s no one better to inspire you than the iconic Bob Ross and his show The Joy of Painting, featured for free on Youtube! His show ran on PBS for 31 seasons, with 400 episodes and about 1000 oil paintings – very bingeable! This wonderful and gentle man guides you through a painting in each episode; explaining his materials, colour selection, and process, all while creating a friendly and calming atmosphere. If the previous suggestion enriches your mind, this certainly will enrich your heart! Let Bob inspire your students, and give them confidence to start their next artistic project, for as he says, “We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents!”
Enjoy a Livestream of a Play by the National Theatre Live
Why not shake up your classic movie night by going to theatre – all from the comfort of your home! In an effort to keep the public engaged by the theatrical arts, the National Theatre Live has taken their paid broadcasts and put them online on YouTube for free! Every Thursday, a new play is put up on their YouTube channel, and is left there for one week for your viewing pleasure. You can also watch interviews, rehearsals, and cast questionnaires, making it a superbly enriching experience. Such an opportunity is made possible by the various cast and crews who have waived their rights for the plays, all for the love of making theatre accessible! This is a great opportunity to witness a piece of art you’d otherwise never get the chance to, so settle in, turn off your cellphone, and enjoy the show!
I hope these amazing artistic resources inspire you to explore a new subject, conquer that project, and expand your mind! Just because we’re at home, doesn’t mean we can’t get inspired to make some ART!
